Every year at this time I create a Cast of Characters for the Farm Club members. So I took sheep photos today. Here are some of them:

I started before chore time in the morning and had to chase all the sheep out of the barn. They weren’t too happy about missing breakfast.

And they don’t like the deep mud so they all stayed on the cement that Dan poured behind the barn this summer.

The Angora goat show was on Saturday. But it’s mostly about sheep.

Here is a Jacob look-alike, at least from the spots. No Jacob has ears that big.

The Young Flock competition is on Saturday at the end of all the other shows and there is a special prize for the best Young Flock of the whole show. A young flock is made up of two ewe lambs and one ram lamb from a single breeder.

I had the Jacob young flock in the competition.

Another Morning & More Sheep Photos

This morning I was going to take three sheep to be shorn at a friend’s house. These three were born at the State Fair in July last year and I didn’t want to shear them at our early February shearing. So I went out to take photos of the ram so that I’d have photos in full fleece for registration paperwork. Then I got carried away with other sheep portraits. 15078 right This is the 9 month old ram. He needs a name. Nash This is Meridian Nash. These rams have the same sire so I don’t need both. I think this one will be for sale. Ringo Puddleduck Ringo is also for sale. I have used him for two seasons and he needs to move on. Rotor Meridian Rotor. 16002 Isn’t this a beautiful stylish ewe lamb? She was born a month before everyone else because the ram lambs weren’t weaned soon enough. Too bad I don’t know her sire. More New Sheep

In the last post I mentioned the new sheep that I got from Puddleduck Farm in Oregon. But there were only two in those photos. There were actually nine sheep in the trailer. I had intended to get a ram and two yearling ewes. It’s a long story but I ended up with 6 more ewes of various ages. They are in the pasture with Ringo and about a dozen of my ewes, but these six stick together.
